Helping Your Kids Become Lifelong Exercisers

It’s a common concern among parents that their children are leading a sedentary lifestyle. With the prevalence of video games and other toys that discourage physical activity, it’s little wonder that childhood obesity is so drastically on the rise. And it’s not overreacting for parents to worry about these issues. After all, poor health habits established as a child can carry over into adulthood where they can cause some serious and lasting health issues.

For that reason, if you want to help your child find fun and active activities, encourage physical activity with specific gifts. This can include a brand new tricycle for your young child or a new bike if your kid is a little bit older. These bikes will be a fun way for your kid to cruise around the neighborhood, and it will get them off the couch and into the fresh air. It will also be a great form of exercise with an activity that they can carry into adulthood.

Ah, The Simple Pleasures Of Childhood

As far as I still can remember, my childhood days were so simple.  The toys that I’ve played with aren’t as advanced as the toys available for kids these days. There wasn’t any complicated interactive computer games then. It’s all about outdoor and backyard games and plays are the popular things we do.  That is why kids during my time were more active.

Last Christmas, my wife and I decided to give our kids something to make them more active and enjoy more of playing in our backyard. And with that in mind, we decided to checkout our local bicycle shop to see what we can get them.  We were very surprised with what they are offering.  We both never realized that even the simple go carts, bikes and tricycles for kids have already evolved. They’re now being offered with all those advanced features such as adjustable chairs, countless accessories and equipped with different setting speeds. We had a great time  choosing and in the end we were able to get them these toys that will change the way the play, similar to what I as a kid have played before – but with plenty of extras of course.

Tricycling Down Memory Lane

tricycleMy first tricycle was pale pink in color and had glittering streamers hanging from the handlebars. I have such great memories of riding that little bike! When my niece turned five last year I wanted to surprise her with the same sort of tricycle. I found on at the nearby toy store—and it was perfect. It was cherry-pink in color and had yellow stripes running down its sides.

I put the tricycle in a huge box and wrapped it with shiny silver paper. I bought a long, pink ribbon and stuck it right on the top. My niece was so excited when she saw the gift she screamed. Later, when it came time to open the presents she chose mine first and rapidly tore off the wrapping paper. She rode the tricycle around for the rest of the day. And now every time I visit she asks if I want a ride.
